Branding Strategy & Logo Design for Dave Brown Outfitters
When you’re a hard charger like Dave Brown of Dave Brown Outfitters, it’s easy to expand your areas of operation. This fly fishing and wingshooting expert guides not only across state lines, but also across International boundaries. Dave’s successful guide service had expanded so quickly that he ended up with a fishing website, a wingshooting website, a variety of social media handles, and four different logos. What was needed was a branding strategy & logo design.
DAVE BROWN’S LOGOS BEFORE:
Our objective was to create one brand image that could properly represent his many service offerings. While the use of stock imagery was certainly an option we chose a more traditional approach that would bring Dave’s passion for his work to life. That involved hand illustration and coloration.
Our approach wasn’t just to create a pretty design, it was also to include greater functionality. Hand-drawn and colored illustrations certainly look snazzy, but they also reproduce far better for print and digital applications. So we scoured his image archive to find a dog representative of his new direction in dog breeding. Johnny Ringo was that dog, for not only was he a bird-finding machine from impeccable breeding but he was also stunningly handsome. Our illustrator hand drew and colored a picture to suit and that solved the upland bird hunting part of the logo. The fishing portion of his logo was far easier as Dave’s favorite fly is the H.L. Variant. Overall color palette included brown to represent the fields and stream beds where Dave and his team operate. Symbolically it meshes with his name, too.
The result? One new brand identity delivered through a creative, integrated, and illustrated logo, customized to suit.
